Spoken Word - Writing for Friday

Considering the past 4 days with Mic Crenshaw and using the unit objective and essential questions as your guide, create a spoken word poem that is true to you.

Unit Objective --- Through a spoken word poetry unit focused on exploring identity and issues of justice, students will learn from local activist and artist Mic Crenshaw, extending their learning into both written and spoken poetry.

Unit Essential Questions

• Who am I? To myself? To my family? To my community? Who are we?
• What are the stories I carry in my backpack? How can I share them?

How to turn it into a spoken word poem What are the strongest visual memories The strongest sensory details (with those feelings) Sight, sound, textile, emotions My bodies sensual experience → the things that left their mark on me STRONG statements that carry the poem? let words hang in the air Focus on one line to deliver with emotion, power, clarity Repeat lines!!!
