Marine Biology Week

Reminder that this Sunday is Garden Day, 9:00 - 1:00 (garden and service hours available!)

Due Tuesday, May 27th:
1. Science Inquiry (if you haven't already finished it in class)
2. Service Journal pages 88, 89 (if you haven't already finished them in class)
3. You should be finished with your non-fiction/civil war novel. If you are not going to finish it by Tuesday, please communicate it with me ahead of time. The book should be done NO later then Friday, May 30th if that is the case.

Science Inquiry – Leaf Packs – Michael Jansa

HW due Monday:

1. Celilo Falls field study questions
...each letter essential question should be treated like a full question (minimum of 3 complete sentences)
...ignore the timeline assignment question

2. Non-fiction reading assignment

3. Civil War - Letter Home from the War
...Write a minimum 1/2 page letter home from the war from the perspective of your character (or someone related to your character)... Include what you know about the war, battles, downtime, etc... (think about Soldier's Heart, the activity we did Friday afternoon, and the soldier slideshow)


Hw due Tuesday:
1. Influential Person of the 1800's - Persuasive Speech (see rubric below)
...We will work on this Monday; however, if you want to get a jump on it feel free!

Influential Person of the 1800's - Persuasive Speech
***This speech is essentially, a shortened, more engaging version of your essay

It should include the following things from your essay:
-hook
-thesis statement
-2 supporting facts (1 from body paragraph 1, 1 from body paragraph 2) with an explanation of what they mean
-the counter argument and a rebuttal
-strong concluding sentence

Your speech should be 1-2 minutes and the biggest focus should be on the following speaking skills:


·                      Voice
o   Pace (not too slow, not too fast… pauses)
o   Fluctuation (don’t sound like a robot person)
o   Projection (make sure we can hear you)
·                     Eye contact
·                    Confidence (whether it is real or not)
